What applies to you
- Every industrial battery above 2 kWh placed on the market or put into service from 18 February 2027 needs a battery passport (Art. 77(1)).
- The passport is per battery. For modular storage it depends on what is placed on the market as a single battery; clarify this with your manufacturer.
- Responsible is whoever places the battery on the market, for imported goods usually the importer (Art. 77(4)).
- The passport must remain available until recycling, even if the provider no longer exists (Art. 77(8), Art. 78).
- Carbon footprint and recycled content only enter the passport once the related legal acts apply.

How Batterypass Online helps
Sample passport as a template
Our sample passport for a 10 kWh home storage system shows what a finished passport looks like and which values are typical.
Request data from the manufacturer
Request missing values via a link, in Chinese too. The manufacturer needs no account; you review and take over the answers.
Condition over the lifetime
Add status and state of health later, by hand or via the API. Every change is stored as a new version.
Frequently asked questions
My storage has exactly 2 kWh. Do I need a passport?
No. The duty applies to industrial batteries above 2 kWh. Check the rating plate though: what counts is the energy of the individual battery.
Do I need a passport for storage that is already installed?
No. The duty applies to batteries placed on the market or put into service from 18 February 2027.
Who creates the passport if an installer sells the storage?
The economic operator who places the battery on the EU market, usually the manufacturer or importer. The installer as a distributor creates no passport but may not offer batteries subject to the duty without one.
