Comparison
Three routes to the battery passport, compared honestly
Self-service, a large platform or building it yourself: each route has its place. What decides is your volume, your budget and how much time is left until February 2027.
| Criterion | Batterypass Online | Enterprise platform | Excel & in-house |
|---|---|---|---|
| Time to the first passport | Minutes: create an account, enter a model, publish | Weeks to months for project, onboarding and integration | A spreadsheet is quick, but a reachable passport page is missing |
| Entry cost | Pilot free, paid plans from €59 a month | Usually an individual offer, often with an annual contract | No licence, but ongoing staff effort |
| Setup fee | None | Common, depending on the vendor | Not applicable |
| Passport and QR code per battery | Automatic per serial number, one by one, as a range or via CSV | Yes, usually via ERP interfaces | Only with a lot of manual work; the QR code needs a permanently reachable address |
| Mandatory fields per battery category | Built in, following the official attribute list (version 2.0) | Built in, often freely configurable | Research and maintain them yourself |
| Public passport page with access levels | Included, three levels under Annex XIII | Yes | Not available; a spreadsheet is not a passport |
| Data from suppliers | Link without login, in 28 languages including Chinese (Business and up) | Supplier portal, often with its own account | E-mails and spreadsheets back and forth |
| ERP and shop integration | API and webhooks from Business | The strength of these solutions, including data spaces such as Catena-X | None |
| Availability after cancellation | Readable for at least 15 years, free of charge | Depends on the contract | Ensure it yourself, even if your company no longer exists (Art. 78) |
| Fits | Importers, retailers with their own brand, small and mid-sized manufacturers | Groups with many plants, their own IT and an integration budget | Tests and batteries without a passport duty |

As of October 2026. The columns describe typical routes, not individual vendors. Always check scope and prices with the vendor concerned.
Which route fits when?
Self-service
You place a few hundred to a few thousand batteries on the market each year, have no IT department of your own and want to be ready by February 2027. Ready-made software is the shortest route.
Enterprise platform
You manufacture in several plants, need deep integration with ERP, MES and data spaces and have a project budget. Then the higher effort pays off.
Excel & in-house
A spreadsheet works well for taking stock of your data. As a passport it is not enough: the public page, the access levels, the QR code per battery and long-term availability are missing.
Create your first battery passport today.
The Pilot plan is free. One model, ten passports, no setup fee.
